JARS

• Two jars, one with a lid, Watrakan

• Kali’na, Karaiibs Indians, Suriname

• Ceramic, pottery, earthernware

• Height: 30 and 27 cm

• 1920-1930

The jars are made of powder-crushed clay mixed with the ashes of the bark of kepi-trees. This ash makes the jar porous, so that it 'sweats' and thus, through the evaporation, keeps the water cool.
